The Allegheny County Parks Department released the “2013 Fun Guide,” which lists many of the events, activities and programs taking place this year in its nine regional parks. The guide includes concerts, nature programs, movies, sports clinics, plays, athletic events, classes, historical tours, fundraisers and other special events. The vast majority of the activities are free of charge.

The 2013 Fun Guide is available in PDF Format at www.alleghenycounty.us/parks/FunGuide.pdf. Printed guides will be available soon in all nine county parks, as well as many Allegheny County offices.

Since new events are added daily, the Parks Department will issue a weekly schedule of activities via email through Labor Day. To receive the weekly updates, and other Parks Department news and information, sign up online at www.alleghenycounty.us/newsroom/RequestNews.aspx.

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs (ASSE) is seeking local host families for boys and girls from a variety of countries around the world – France Spain, Norway, Finland, Germany, China, Thailand and many others. These students are 15 to 18 years of age, and are coming to this area for the upcoming high school year or semester. The students are personable, academically selected, conversant in English, bright, curious and excited to learn about America.

The students arrive from their home country shortly before school begins and return at the end of the school year or semester. Each ASSE student is fully insured, brings his or her own personal spending money and expects to contribute to household responsibilities, as well as being included in normal family activities and lifestyles.

The Butterfly Bandits is looking for thyroid cancer survivors to participate in the butterfly release dedication at PNC Park on Sept. 15.

On that day, the Pittsburgh Pirates will hold a Thyroid Cancer Awareness Fundraiser: Tailgate and Cheer for a Cure to support research and bring awareness to the disease. Email chris.butterflybandits@gmail.com for details.
