USC honors teachers, coaches, students
A majority of the Upper St. Clair School District meeting June 18 was dedicated to honoring teachers, students and a coach for achieving awards.
Head Football Coach Jim Render, who did not attend the board meeting, was recognized as he was to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Loou Holtz Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame at the annual induction event June 24.
Numerous students participated in the Odyssey of the Mind World Competition in Michigan, as well as the state and national winners in the Reflections contests.
Two retiring teachers, Carolyn Idler, who retired as the Baker Elementary School physical education teacher, and Zoltan Toth, who retired as the Fort Couch Guidance Counselor, spoke to thank the board. Toth was also recognized by the Steel Valley Family Center for his years of service.
In other action, the school board:
• Authorized $21,800 to be distributed as merit raises among about 20 administrators.
• Approved a memorandum of understanding for the Thailand-United States Student Cultural Exchange program.
• Approved a three-year agreement with the director of business and finance. No salary was announced with the board to determine at a later meeting.
