CV Colts fall to Latrobe in PIHL semifinals

Greater Latrobe mounted a three-goal lead and held on to beat Chartiers Valley, 3-2, in a PIHL Class AA semifinal playoff game at the RMU Island Sports Center.
With the win, the Wildcats advanced to the Penguins Cup finals to face Pine Richland on March 20 at the Consol Energy Center. Meanwhile, the Colts wrapped up a 15-5-1 season.
Latrobe jumped ahead, 1-0, in the first frame. Christopher Johnson scored, off assists from Brendan Johns and Joshua Singley, at the 8:04 mark.
The Wildcats tacked on two tallies in the second stanza. This time Johnson and Singley dished up the puck to Adam Ferguson for the second score 2:53 into the period. Less than two minutes later, Ferguson assisted on Dalton Hunter’s goal.
The Colts did not go down easy as they registered two tallies on power plays in the third period. They had two additional power plays but could not capitalize.
CV’s first tally came 66 seconds into the final frame. Robert Ferrari scored while Anthony Franks and Rich Monti assisted. With 11:04 to play, the Colts struck again, this time on a tally from Franks. Monti and Ryan Ziss assisted.
The Colts fired off 18 shots but Shane Brudnok was superb in the nets for the Wildcats. For CV, Noah Stevenson faced 36 shots on goal.
