Mt. Lebanon needs attractive senior housing
The March 20 issue of The Almanac contained an article, “Want to Live on ‘The Street?'” about the proposed housing complex in North Strabane Township in Washington County near The Meadows. This would be yet another opportunity for the older communities in Allegheny County to lose more population.
It’s time for the Mt. Lebanon Commissioners to give some serious thought to attracting a developer to build an up-to-date apartment complex in Mt. Lebanon – maybe at the corner of Bower Hill and Washington Roads, where the condominium was to have been built. There are so many older adults in the area who are interested in downsizing from their homes without the responsibilities of a condo, but there are no updated and attractive apartments available in the community. With its proximity to the “T” and its walkability, Uptown Mt. Lebanon is the ideal location for apartment living for active adults, yet the apartments in that area are out-dated and unkempt. Apartments with the amenities of an elevator, balconies, in-suite laundries and indoor parking would surely attract people who would like the easy access to Downtown Pittsburgh and who would also enjoy the convenience of town living in Mt. Lebanon, so that they could continue to enjoy all that Mt. Lebanon has to offer.
