Bethel Park High School will stage Telerama, the annual two-night showcase of Bethel Park High School student talent, at 7:30 p.m. May 10 and 11 in the BPHS auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door on performance evenings. The show will be different each night.
The Bethel Park Music Department and the Bethel Park High School Student Government Association will hold Driven to Give from 2-4 p.m. May 19 in the BPHS parking lot. Participants will be given a personal driving experience with the re-imagined Lincoln vehicle line-up. For every test drive taken at the event, the Lincoln Motor Company and South Hills Lincoln will donate $20 to the Music Department and SGA.
Canonsburg Middle School students Samuel O’Bryan, C.J. O’Shell, Dimitri Pihiou and Robby Sanders Jr. placed second in Pennsylvania for the seventh-grade division of the U.S. Navy-sponsored competition eCybermission. As a second-place team, each member of the team will be awarded a $500 (maturity value) U.S. Savings Bond.
Starting in the fall semester, the four boys decided to investigate the Mission Challenge Category of Alternative Sources of Energy. The team, CMScientists, solved an energy problem in the community, determining what source of energy is better now, and which will be better in the future. The team chose their topic because natural gas energy has recently moved into the local area opening up a plethora of job and research opportunities.
Applications will be accepted until May 17 for the Angel F. Miranda Achievement Award, created in memory of Angel F. Miranda, a student at Pathfinder School and a 2007 Bethel Park graduate. The award will honor a Bethel Park special needs student who attends grade 12+ and is between the ages of 17 and 21, and who demonstrates the characteristics of self-determination, tenacity, accepting challenges, overcoming obstacles, service/work and going the extra mile. The award will be presented at the BPHS Awards Night on June 12.

The Bethel Park School District invites all parents whose children participate in federally-funded reading programs in the BPSD to attend a Federal Programs Parent Night from 6:30-7:30 p.m. May 22 in the William Penn Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room.
Learn what the district can do to help make students more successful, to support parents when they work with their child, and share tips with parents to promote learning at home. Refreshments will be served.

• Elementary String Concert, 7 p.m. May 14 at IMS, featuring performances by all five elementary schools.
• IMS Seventh Grade Concert, 7 p.m. May 16.
• NAMS Fifth Grade Strings Concert, 6:30 p.m. May 20.
• NAMS Sixth Grade Strings Concert, 7:30 p.m. May 20.
• BPHS Choral Concert, 7 p.m. May 22.
• IMS Eighth Grade Concert, 7 p.m. May 23.
The Pathfinder School will hold a pasta dinner 5 to 8 p.m. May 17. Cost is $7.50/adults and $3/kids 5 and under. Take-out pasta is $5. A basket raffle and book fair are also planned. Proceeds will benefit the Student Activities Fund. Jack Albenzi Catering is providing the food.
Award-winning Canonsburg Middle School Symphonic Band will perform at 7 p.m. May 9, at the school. Featured will be the premiere of “Postcard from Pittsburgh,” a work by Canadian composer Robert Buckley. Buckley will be conducting the piece at the concert. He has composed works for Cirque du Soleil, Michael Bublé, Celine Dion, the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and the 1994 Commonwealth Games. Tickets for the concert are $3.
The following Bethel Park High School juniors finished among the top 10 scorers on the Westinghouse Science Honors Institute’s End-of-Program Exam: Brandon Hanson, Second Place, earning $750; Christian Hokaj, Third Place, earning $750; Jarrod Cingel, Sixth Place, earning $500; and Logan Tuite, 10th Place, earning $250. This year, 12 BPHS juniors attended the 10-week Westinghouse Lecture Series, which exposed them to the latest advances in science, technology and engineering.
The Bethel Park High School German Club recently inducted 14 new members into the BPHS Chapter of the Delta Epsilon Phi German National Honor Society. This year’s inductees were: freshmen Jack Brownfield, Corinne Hebestreit, Natalie Lalama, Ashley Slade, Devin Stewart, Joseph Wasko, Thomas Weber and Grant Wilson; sophomores Rachel Albert, Rachel Dodson, Rebecca Najdzinski, Rebecca Swaney and Benjamin Wallace, as well as junior Kevin Hollerich.
