BP continues season of firsts
Bethel Park’s season of firsts continued when the Lady Hawks defeated Norwin, 3-0, in the PIAA volleyball tournament.
After winning the first set, 25-21, BP edged Norwin, 26-24, in the second. The Lady Hawks won the match with a 25-21 win in the third set.
Against Norwin, Stacey Kazalas recorded 16 kills while Sarah Storino managaed 19 digs.
With the sweep of the Knights, the Lady Hawks advanced to state semifinals for the first time in school history. BP faced defending state champion, Landisville Hempfield, in a match played last night (Nov. 12) in Altoona.
While Landisville Hempfield was making its fifth straight semifinal appearance, BP made its first showing in the tournament.
The Lady Hawks, who opened PIAA play with a win against Taylor Allderdice, also reached the District 7 finals for the first time in school history. BP finished runner-up to North Allegheny in the WPIAL tournament.
This fall, BP also won its first section title since 2004.
Collier Township offers a dek hockey league for ages 5-16, Saturdays and Sundays beginning Nov. 17. Fee is $70 ($80 non-residents). Pre-registration required.
