The Women’s Club of Upper St. Clair will meet Nov. 19 at Christ U.M. Church, Bethel Park. Special guest will be Dr. Scott Shalaway, biologist, naturalist and nature writer who conducts birding trips to exotic locations.

Shoe boxes are being packed for needy kids through Samaritan’s Purse. Much needed donated items include pencils, sharpeners, crayons, small notebooks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bar soap, combs and washcloths.

Hekima Place, a home for orphaned and vulnerable girls in Kenya, will sponsor a free musical event at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at St. Thomas More Church, Bethel Park. Music director and pianist Kathy English will be accompanied by the flute, trumpet, violin and cello.
A meet and greet with Hekima founder and former Mt. Lebanon resident Kate Fletcher will follow. Fletcher recently addressed the 2013 Social Summit in New York to discuss Hekima Place and her vision for the home in Kenya.
Phipps Conservatory and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre will present Poinsettias and Pointe Shoes at 6 and at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in Phipps’ historic glasshouse.
Performed by students of the PBT school, “The Nutcracker” will include a meet/greet with the Sugarplum Fairy and other costumed dancers.

Monongahela Valley Hospital will host its 29th Annual Light-up Night at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 25 in the Central Plaza. The evening will include Frosty the Snowman, free cocoa, sing-a-long, Raza-ma-tazz singers from Ringgold High School, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus and an ensemble from the Monessen High School Marching Band.
