Pianist and author Pat Jennings will return to the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Reception Hall for readings from her new book “In One Era and Out the Other.”
Jennings will donate $1 from all in-person book purchases to the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, where she serves on its advisory board. Jennings will be doing a second reading on Nov. 17 at the Mendelson Gallery in Shadyside.
A Q&A and book signing will take place afterward, followed by a reception with music courtesy of Carnegie jazzmen Phil Salvato and Haywood Vincent. The event is free.
Woodville Plantation, Bridgeville, will hold Holidays at the House with candlelight tours from noon-8 p.m. Nov. 17. Celebrate an 18th century Christmas with costumed guides, holiday displays and traditional decorations. Learn about Twelfth Night, Boxing Day and the firing of Christmas guns.
Admission is $5. Kids under age 6 are free.

Doug Oster visits the Peters Township Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 16 to discuss his newest book, “The Steel City Garden: Creating a one-of-a-kind garden in black and gold.” Oster will also answer gardening questions, and copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

“Over There … The G.I. Christmas Tour,” a tribute to Bob Hope’s holiday shows he took overseas to entertain the troops, will be the final show of the 2013 season Crowne Plaza Cabaret Dinner Theatre in Bethel Park.
It will run at 8 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and 14 preceded by dinner at 6:30, along with two Sunday matinees beginning at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 8 and 15 with dinner immediately following.
Price of the dinner-theatre package is $40 and includes both tax and tip.

The South Hills Children’s Choir will hold its Inagural concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at View Crest Presbyterian Church, Eighty Four.
The choir will perform pieces from all over the world to ring in the holiday season.

Mt. Lebanon Recreation will offer a holiday bus trip Dec. 8 to Nemacolin Woodlands and Overly’s Country Christmas Light Display.

Festival of Lights will take place at 3 p.m. Dec. 6 on the adjoining campuses of La Roche College and the Sisters of Divine Providence in McCandless Township, featuring a craft show, tree lighting, live nativity, ice carving, carriage rides, Christmas karaoke, live performances and a fireworks display, and games, crafts and a visit from Santa Claus for children. Admission is free.
Donate canned goods or other nonperishable food items to North Hills Community Outreach between 6-8 p.m. on the lawn of Bold Hall II and receive a 12-ounce cup of cocoa.
