USC man charged with obstruction of justice
An Upper St. Clair man, Anthony V. Cugini, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of obstruction of justice.
Cugini, 54, of 2107 Clairmont Drive, is the only defendant, according to U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton.
According to the indictment, in connection with a Department of Energy investigation regarding misuse of his position as Director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, Cugini attempted to conceal and destroy evidence by directing witnesses to delete and redesignate NETL computer files and records to protect him during the investigation, and to provide false information to investigative inquiries, Hickton said.
If convicted, Cugini could face a maximum of five years in prison or a possible fine of $250,000, or both. Assistant U.S. Attorney Leo M. Dillon is prosecuting the case.
