Media uninformed on gun laws
Once again, an uninformed media calls out for more gun laws. The editorial (Nov. 13) would have the reader believe that banning certain types of weapons and expanding background checks would serve to protect them, that the NRA controls politicians.
An assault weapon, by definition, is capable of discharging multiple rounds of ammo with one pull of the trigger, and in most cases are illegal to own by most U.S. citizens. In order to own this type of weapon, special license and permits are required.
As for adding more gun laws to make us safer? If this were true, the city of Chicago would be the safest in the country. But in fact, it has the highest murder rate. Chicago also boasts the lowest conviction rate of violent criminals.
Politicians are not afraid of the NRA. They are, however, afraid of the voters who will put them out of a job, as seen in the great state of Colorado.
I do agree there is a plague in the United States – that is irresponsible journalism. Keep in mind, if what the editorial referred to as assault weapons are banned, only Mexican drug cartels who buy from Eric Holder will have them.
