• For the 10th time in 11 years, Peters Township qualified for the WPIAL Class AAA team championships for boys’ golf. The Indians, who tied Upper St. Clair for the section title, both finishing with one loss to each other, fired a 414 score to finish fourth in the team standings.

Five seniors blanketed the line-up with Ryan Pollack and Josh Verner shooting the low scores of 81. Cody Ruffing, who recently was crowned Homecoming King, also carded an 81. Tyler Pollack and Anthony Lioon finished with an 85 and 87 respectively.

A sophomore, Jake Sollon finished with an 86.

• Josh Verner will compete in the PIAA qualifier set for Oct. 16 at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville. The top 24 golfers advance to the state championships set for Oct. 21-22 at Heritage Hills Golf Course in York.

• Peters Township took third in the WPIAL Class AAA team championships for girls’ golf. The Lady Indians totaled 353 points while Penn-Trafford won the title with a 344 score. North Allegheny garnered runner-up laurels, finishing four strokes off the pace.

Synclaire Kuhn tied Bridget Merten of Mars and NA’s Megan Leto for medalist honors. All sophomores, the trio carded 78s on the Red Course at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon.

Mia Kness fired an 82 to follow Kuhn’s lead. She is a freshman along with fellow teammates Alyssa Parham and Brooke Hilden. Junior Allison Magyar also contributed to PT’s showing in the team finals.

• Upper St. Clair finished fourth in the girls’ standings at the WPIAL Class AAA team championships. The Lady Panthers posted a 357 score.

Senior Melissa Kearney paced the Panthers with an 82. Junior Mariah Kelly and sophomore Elizabeth Engel followed with an 85 and 89 respectively. Freshman Bella Patrone and junior Leah Behling contributed to USC’s showing.

• When asked what life lesson golf teaches him, Patrick McDonnell of Upper St. Clair responded honestly. “If you are not honest in golf or life, then you are only cheating yourself,” he said. McDonnell fired a 1-under-par 71 to help the Panthers win the WPIAL Class AAA team title.

• Corey Long looks to qualify for the PIAA championships set for Oct. 21-22 at Heritage Hills Golf Course in York. The South Fayette senior won the WPIAL Class AAA individual title after a four-hole playoff against Indiana’s Matt Holuta. Long shot a 3-under-par 67 in regulation before needing extra holes to claim the title. He will now compete in the PIAA qualifier Oct. 16 at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville.
