Neil Armstrong Middle School will host a free Parent Technology Information Night 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the school on Murray Avenue.

Guest speaker Ryan Klingensmith, prevention specialist at Western Psychiatric Institute, will talk to parents about cyber bullying, specifically the current trends, warning signs and resources to prevent and combat cyber bullying. Additionally, Klingensmith will address the impact cyber bullying and social media is having on the brain.

• Entries are due by Oct. 25 for the South Hills Showdown, a cheer and dance competition hosted by the Bethel Park High School varsity competitive spirit squad at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 9 in the high school gymnasium. The event is open to all school, recreation and all-star cheer squads, dance teams, student groups and individuals. All judges are UCA certified. Leavell Photography and Cinema, LLC, will hold an open house 4-9 p.m. Oct. 18 at its studio at 502 Washington Avenue. The event will include a working photo booth where attendees can have pictures taken in exchange for a donation to the Bridgeville Historical Society.

• “Allegheny Land Trust and Wingfield Pines” will be the topic of the Bridgeville Area Historical Society meeting at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Chartiers Room of the fire department. Emlie Rzotkiewicz will present. Wingfield Pines is located off Mayview Road, near the Upper St. Clair Recreation Center.

The society meets the last Tuesday of each month in the fire hall with the exception of January and February when meetings are held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Pink House, home of Wagner’s Chocolates, will hold a Chocolate and Wine Pairing 6:40-8:15 p.m. Oct. 25, with the shop staying open for chocolate and ice cream purchases until 9.

• Alzheimer’s dementia support group, 2 p.m. Oct. 17, featuring an informational program on estate planning and legal documents with featured speaker Martha Mannix from the Elder Law Clinic at the University of Pittsburgh.

• Hospice and palliative care program, 2 p.m. Oct. 24, 2013 featuring local hospice agencies.

The next Alzheimer’s Dementia support group meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 14. All meetings are held in the conference room of the B-building.

The Mobile Veterans Van, operated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will be at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center parking lot, off Cedar Boulevard, noon-5 p.m. Oct. 28, offering the following services: individual and group counseling; marital and family counseling; bereavement counseling; medical referrals; assistance in applying for VA benefits; employment counseling, guidance and referrals; alcohol and drug assessments; and information and referrals to community services. The van has a 38-foot mobile counseling center, two private offices and wheelchair lift and accessibility.

This event is open to veterans and their families.

• Registrations are being accepted for the Gingerbread House Contest and Show at Lebo Light Night 2013. Submissions will be on display at the Municipal Building starting on Light Night, 6-9 p.m. Nov. 14, and continuing until 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 16. The Peters Township Chamber Chase 5K Run/Walk will take place at 9 a.m. Oct. 19 at Peterswood Park.

• Monster Mash, an annual fall Hip Hop Dance Clinic, will be held Oct. 27 at Peters Township High School. Taught by the Peters Township Dance Team, 2013 National Hip Hop Champions, the clinic is for girls and boys in grades K-8 and high school students (special instruction for eighth-11th graders interested in trying out for the PTHS Dance Team).

Sign-in is at 12:30 p.m., followed by the clinic from 1-3:30.

Cost is $30 ($25 for each additional sibling). Preregister by Oct. 20 (includes shirt, snack and drink). • Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series will release “History of South Fayette Township” in the summer of 2014.

Original photographs, maps or postcards prior to 1950 concerning the township are sought for consideration for possible inclusion in the book. Information sought would concern houses of worship, cemeteries, residences and people of interest, businesses, mining, recreation and other topics.
