Washington County Community Foundation will raffle off four Steelers tickets and limousine service to and from Heinz Field for the Nov. 17 game against the Detroit Lions. Game tickets, donated by the Observer-Reporter, are in section 535, row F (at the 50-yard line).
Raffle tickets are $10 each. The winner will be determined by the first validated Pennsylvania Lottery number drawn at 7 p.m. Nov. 1. If the number drawn on this date is an unsold ticket, the winner will be determined by the next day’s 7 p.m. drawing until a winner is determined.
Proceeds from the raffle benefit the WCCF’s Acorn Fund, which makes grants to local charities. Purchase raffle tickets through WCCF Trustees or by contacting the Foundation at 724-222-6330 or marketing@wccf.net.
The Peters Township Public Library will hold A college financial aid night at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4. Registration is necessary for this free program by emailing programs@ptlibrary.org or call 724-941-9430.
High school parents and students will discover the ins and outs of the college financial aid process with a representative from the Pennsylvania High Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). Jayeann Harr will discuss the variety of methods to finance a college education, as well as looking at alternatives to the traditional college experience.

PPG Place is accepting entries for its 11th Annual Gingerbread House Display and Competition.
Houses are on display in the PPG Place Wintergarden from Nov. 22-Jan. 7, and donations are collected at the display for Children’s Hospital’s Free Care Fund.

This season, holiday shoppers in Southwest Allegheny and Washington counties can give cheer to area seniors by participating in the Be a Santa to a Senior program.
The program, run by the local Home Instead Senior Care office in partnership with other local organizations, retailers, volunteers and members of the community, helps ensure isolated seniors receive gifts and companionship during the holidays.
Christmas trees featuring ornaments with seniors’ first names and their gift requests will be on display at local retailers Nov. 11-Dec. 9. Pick an ornament, buy the item(s) listed, and return the gift(s) unwrapped to the store, with the ornament attached.

Walnut Grill Holdings announced the opening of its new Walnut Grill restaurant in Bridgeville (Collier Township) on Oct. 17. The company’s fourth location, situated at 1595 Washington Pike in the former Damon’s restaurant, becomes the largest of the Walnut Grills, with approximately 7,300 square feet of interior space. Extensive renovation that began back in July included the addition of a new 2,000-square foot outdoor patio that includes a fire pit, multiple high definition TVs and its own bar.

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, Koda Bridal in Mt. Lebanon will open its doors on a first-come, first-served basis for its Salute to Soldiers Bridal Giveaway. Over 40 bridal gowns in sizes 16-30 will be given away to women or their betrothed military personnel who have served in the military, have been deployed in the last five years, or are going to be deployed in the near future.
Participating ladies must meet certain criteria to qualify and must preregister online.
Other vendors will be on-site to make wedding planning easier.

Mt. Lebanon Commissioners are seeking applications from residents to fill an immediate vacancy on the historic preservation board. At least one more spot will be filled in March 2014.
Members serve three-year terms and are appointed “at large,” meaning they can live in any ward of the municipality. A background in community development, historic preservation, architecture, landscape design or real estate is helpful, but not required.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association offers assistance with the cost of flu vaccines for adults and children affected by neuromuscular disease, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

The influenza vaccine for 2013-2014 will help protect against three viruses-influenza A (H1N1 and H3N2) viruses, as well as the common influenza B virus. Individuals affected by muscle disease can receive reimbursement, up to $35, for the cost of vaccines received from licensed health care professionals, including those located at retail pharmacies. MDA clinics may also offer flu shots in certain areas.

Submissions for composers to submit new works to Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s 10th Annual Reading Session must be received no later than Nov. 8.
To be eligible, applicants must be residents of Pennsylvania at the time of submissions and in the early stages of their careers. Previous participants may not reapply and submitted works must not have received a performance or a reading by a professional orchestra previously. Only one work per composer will be considered.
Submissions will be evaluated by 2013-14 Year of Pittsburgh Composers adviser David Stock and read by the PSO conducted by Leonard Slatkin on March 15, 2014. Following the session, which is free and open to the public, composers will receive feedback from a panel including Stock, Slatkin and the PSO musicians.
Selected works will be announced Dec. 6.

State Rep. Brandon Neuman, D-Washington, will sponsor his third annual holiday bus tour on Dec. 10.
