The Corey Moximchalk Classic Memorial Golf Outing takes place Sept. 8 at Norvelt Golf Club in Mt. Pleasant. Proceeds benefit the First Tee Organization. La Roche College will hold the Scott Lang Memorial Golf Classic Sept. 23 at Wildwood Golf Club, Allison Park.
Registration is at 10:15 a.m. followed by a cookout lunch on the deck at 11 and golf at noon with a shotgun start/scramble format. Reception and awards follow at 5 p.m.

The Scott Lang Memorial Golf Classic is held in memory of LaRoche’s late basketball coach, who in 2010, at age 41, tragically passed away on the court during practice. Proceeds from the event enable LaRoche College to maintain and enhance student athletic programs, build infrastructure for the sports programs and purchase needed equipment and supplies.
Register by Sept. 14 for the annual George Meyer Scholarship Golf Outing, sponsored by Bethel Park Lions. The event will be held Sept. 21 at Lindenwood Golf Club in McMurray. Registration begins at noon with tee off at 1 p.m. There is a scramble format and single golfers will be assigned to teams. Eighteen holes of golf with cart, plus snack, dinner, hole-in-one contest, skill contests and prizes are included for $100 per golfer. All money raised will support a scholarship to a deserving senior at Bethel Park High School in 2014.

Peacock Keller law firm is sponsoring the sixth annual “Off The Shelf … A Celebration of Books” charity event 6-9:30 p.m. Sept. 18, to support libraries in Pennsylvania’s Washington, Greene and Fayette counties. The fundraiser will feature a presentation by Keith Bellows, the editor in chief of National Geographic Traveler magazine, and will take place at the Southpointe Hilton Garden Inn.
This year’s theme is travel. Each table at the fundraiser will choose a book about travel and decorate their table accordingly, as part of a larger contest. Table decorating will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. on the day of the event, with an impartial panel of judges evaluating each table thereafter. Cocktail hour begins at 6, providing attendees an opportunity to inspect Chinese auction items. Participants will also be able to support their favorite tables by donating to the “People’s Choice Award.” A live auction will also be held. Dinner will follow at 7, with Bellows taking the podium at 8.

More than 5,000 walkers representing local families, corporations and schools are expected to participate in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Western PA Chapter’s Walk to Cure Diabetes events this fall. This year’s fundraising goal for JDRF and the walkers is to raise $1.1 million for research into the treatment, prevention and ultimately a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D).
The walk on Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park takes place Sept. 21 and another walk at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg campus is slated for Sept. 28. For both sites, registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the two-mile walk begins at 10.

Lebanon Village will hold its fourth annual fundraising dinner and silent auction at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at St. Clair Country Club. The dinner, called Bringing Smiles to the Community, will celebrate the impact Mt. Lebanon Village has had on the community. KDKA’s Jennifer Antkowiak will be the keynote speaker. She is also the founder of “Jennifer Cares,” a business that provides information and products to make life easier for women, families and especially caregivers.
The evening will celebrate the importance of senior residents and the role of Mt. Lebanon Village in the community.

Family Promise provides a safe, temporary home for children and their parents who are homeless. The Paws for the Cure benefit walk will be held Oct. 6 at Hartwood Acres in Allison Park. Emceed by Shelley Duffy of STAR 100.7 FM, this event for pups and their people kicks off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Pittsburgh.
Participants-with or without dogs-can stroll a one-mile course through scenic Hartwood Acres, shop vendor and sponsor tents, and try their pets’ luck at contests and games. Enjoy music by local country artist Sydney Hutchko and fun activities such as dog costume contests, raffles, and agility demonstrations.
The day’s events begin with registration and t-shirt pick up at 9 a.m., a welcoming ceremony at 10 and dog contests at 10:30. The walk begins at 11 when raffle prizes will be drawn and the closing ceremony is at 11:45.
Registration for is $25 for adults and $15 for children 14 and younger and includes a Paws for the Cure T-shirt for the first 1,000 participants. Participating dogs will receive a Paws for the Cure bandana while supplies last. Any one that raise $500 or more in pledges will be entered into a raffle to win a $250 Giant Eagle gift card.

Family Hospice and PalliativeCare will host its annual Memorial Walk on Oct. 6 at North Shore Riverfront Park (next to Jerome Bettis’ Grille 36). Join emcee, Pirates’ alumnus and announcer Steve Blass for an opportunity to honor the memory of those you love while raising funds for Western Pennsylvania’s leading nonprofit hospice. The Dicey Chicks, a Pittsburgh-based Bunco group, will host its fourth biennial Roll for a Reason Bunco Oct. 19 in the Fellowship Hall of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair. Proceeds benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Roll for a Reason consists of three games of Bunco, separated by 20-minute intermissions for players to enjoy the dessert bar and participate in the basket raffle. For participants who have never played Bunco, the rules will be reviewed. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Play begins at 1:30 p.m. Registration is $20 per person before Oct. 5, and $30 per person after Oct. 5.
