Schindehette leads BP to win over PT

Back-to-back goals by Nick Schindehette in the final eight minutes of action propelled Bethel Park to victory, 3-2, over Peters Township in high school boys’ soccer action Sept. 9.
With the win, the Hawks improved to 5-1 overall. Meanwhile, the loss was the first this season for the Indians, who likewise are 5-1.
In the 16th minute of action, Ryan Ponchione lifted the Indians to a 1-0 advantage. Sean Harrison assisted on the goal.
However, 16 minutes into the second half, Michael Guerrero netted the equalizer for the Hawks.
Quickly, Peters responded. Matthew Dekman poked a goal past Quentin Keibler with 22:28 to play. Tom O’Hare earned an assist on the play.
With 8:15 to go, Schindehette exploded for the first of his two scores, leading the Hawks to victory.
The Hawks also triumphed over the Indians, 3-1, in the junior varsity match.
While PT looks to return to the win column Sept 12 at home against Chartiers Valley, the Hawks host McKeesport at 7:30 p.m. Thursday before traveling to Pittsburgh to battle top-ranked Upper St. Clair at 8 p.m. Sept. 14 at Highmark Stadium in Station Square.
The USC and BP girls play in the preliminary game at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, the PT ladies edged Mt. Lebanon, 2-1, in another thrilling non-league contest played Sept. 9.
In a mad scramble in front of the net, Laurel Carpenter scored off a volley with 30 seconds to play, lifting the Lady Indians to the slim victory.
Maddi Santo scored first for PT, off an assist from Emily Franty.
Early in the second half, however, Eleni Nichlas registered the equalizer for Lebo.
Megan Parker earned the win in the nets. She recorded three saves.
The Lady Indians improved to 4-1 overall. Their lone loss occurred Sept. 7 to Bethel Park, 3-2.
With the loss, Lebo dropped to 1-3-1 overall. They host Baldwin in a Section 4 clash Sept. 11.
