South Fayette High School will host its Festival of Bands at 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the stadium.
In addition to South Fayette’s Little Green Machine, participating high school marching bands include Avella, Carlynton, Chartiers Valley, Cornell, Fort Cherry, Peters Township, Pine-Richland, Pittsburgh Obama, Quaker Valley and Upper St. Clair.
Tickets at the gate are $7 adults and $5 students and senior citizens. South Fayette senior citizen gold card holders are admitted free.

Sarah Jicomelli of McMurray, a student at Canon-McMillan High School, has been selected for her superior academic achievement into The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
NSHSS recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.
Composer and speaker Samuel R. Hazo, a former teacher for 20 years, was the guest speaker at the 2013-2014 Opening Day Inservice at Canon-McMillan School District. His topic was “The First Five Minutes of Class.” He explained the importance of engaging students in the first five minutes of each class. Faculty, administration and staff heard his demonstrations of how to do just that in classes of any subject and every level.
Hazo has composed for the professional, university and public school levels in addition to writing original scores for television, radio and the stage. In 2004, his compositions were listed in a published national survey of the “Top Twenty Compositions of All Time” for wind band.
Hazo has been a music teacher at every educational grade level from kindergarten through college, including tenure as a high school and university director.
Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA has school programs available for preschool through college students in Washington County.
