Candidates needed for ML’s Historic Preservation Board
Mt. Lebanon Commissioners are seeking applications from residents to fill an immediate vacancy on the community’s historic preservation board. At least one more spot will be filled in March 2014.
The Mt. Lebanon Historic Preservation Board is a seven-member group of volunteers that provides the municipal commission with advice concerning historic preservation in the context of economic development. The members, who serve three-year terms, work closely with the commission and other advisory boards to ensure community development progresses in ways sensitive to the environment.
Recently, the board has been instrumental in nominating much of Mt. Lebanon to the National Register of Historic Places, a prestigious honorary designation that places no restrictions on properties but helps stabilize and improve property values and provides tax credits for income-producing properties that invest in improvements. Other projects the board has worked on include having Mt. Lebanon designated as a field site for the National Trust for Historic Preservation conference, the restoration of the historic entrance to Cedarhurst Manor and providing affordable design consults to residents through Design Center Pittsburgh.
Board members are appointed “at large,” meaning they can live in any ward of the municipality. A background in community development, historic preservation, architecture, landscape design or real estate is helpful, although anyone with an interest in serving the community is encouraged to apply.
Those wishing to be considered for board membership should submit an online application specifically for the historic preservation board, using the common application, at: http://www.mtlebanon.org/DocumentCenter/Home/View/2694
The board meets at 5 p.m. the third Monday of each month in the municipal building. For more information, contact Susan Morgans, staff liaison, at 412-343-3780.
