Rockfield resurfacing set for fall
Chip Dalesandro of Golden Triangle Construction was at the Scott Commissioners’ Sept. 10 agenda meeting to update the board about plans to resurface Swallow Hill and Rockfield roads. Golden Triangle was the lowest of five companies bidding on the project and was awarded the $1.9 million dollar contract at the board’s August voting meeting.
Dalesandro told the board that work on Rockfield will begin Sept. 30. Crews are scheduled to work four, 10-hour days from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. No work will be done at night. He expects the work on Rockfield, a concrete street in the township’s third ward, to be completed by mid-November.
The road will be closed and posted “local traffic only.” Dalesandro said the residents living in the 14 houses on the road will have access to their homes at all times.
Dalesandro plans to develop a traffic plan for heavily traveled Swallow Hill Road, located in Scott’s second ward, this winter, with accommodations so Port Authority buses and emergency vehicles would be able to use the road.
Work on Swallow Hill, also a concrete road, is expected to begin in mid-March, and could possibly be finished by mid-July 2014.
At the same meeting, Commissioner Bill Wells suggested that Scott Township consider developing a strategic plan for the municipality, adding that most local communities have long-term plans. Wells suggested that all areas of the township, such as the library and recreational amenities, be included in the planning efforts. Scott manager Denise Fitzgerald agreed with Wells’ comments. The board also heard a presentation from Marty Coyne, president of Future Skate LLC, a maker of synthetic ice rinks. Coyne said the low maintenance rinks, which can be used year round, are less expensive than traditional ones. The cost is estimated at $200,000 to $300,000.
In other business, the winners of the lottery for free pool parties for 2014 were chosen: Chartiers Terrace Housing Association, Our Lady of Grace Catholic School and Chartiers Valley Baseball Association.
