The Mon Valley Heart Walk will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 at Consol Energy Park in Washington. Registration starts at 9 a.m.

Family Promise of Southwestern Pennsylvania will hold its Frames for Families event noon-3 p.m. Oct. 5 at Meadows Lanes on Racetrack Road.

The field is limited to 20 teams, and only the first 100 bowlers will be able to participate. Registration is $20 per bowler and includes three games and shoe rental. Sponsorship opportunities are available and donations for the Chinese auction and door prizes are being accepted.

Paws for the Cure benefit walk will be held Oct. 6 at Hartwood Acres, Allison Park, for people and their pups, to kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Pittsburgh.

Participants-with or without dogs-can stroll a one-mile course through scenic Hartwood Acres. The event includes vendor and sponsor tents, contests and games for pets, music by local country artist Sydney Hutchko, dog costume contests, raffles and agility demonstrations.

Registration and T-shirt pick up begin at 9 a.m., followed by a welcoming ceremony at 10 and dog contests at 10:30. The walk begins at 11 when raffle prizes will be drawn and the closing ceremony is at 11:45.

Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for children 14 and younger and includes a Paws for the Cure T-shirt for the first 1,000 participants. Participating dogs will receive a bandana (while supplies last). Those that raise $500 or more in pledges will be entered into a raffle to win a $250 Giant Eagle gift card.

Proceeds benefit Komen Pittsburgh’s breast cancer education, screening and treatment initiatives.

Family Hospice and Palliative Care will host its annual Memorial Walk on Oct. 6 at North Shore Riverfront Park (next to Jerome Bettis’ Grille 36). Join emcee, Pirates’ alumnus and announcer Steve Blass for an opportunity to honor the memory of those you love while raising funds for Western Pennsylvania’s leading nonprofit hospice. Registration is at 9 a.m. followed by the 3K Walk at 10.

Registration is $25 for adults and includes a T-shirt. Kids 12 and younger walk free, and pets on leashes are welcome. The event includes music, refreshments and a special video tribute to those who have died. Preregister now at www.FamilyHospice.com or by calling 412-572-8812.

Arthritis Foundation’s 4th annual Bone Bash Gala is set for Oct. 12 at the Andy Warhol Museum. Warlocks, Witches and Warhol is this year’s theme. Costumes are optional. Dinner, silent auction, screen printing, costume contest, photo booth and Jason Kendall live band will be featured.

Ticket range from $225 for the full gala event to $25 for a two-hour dance party at the end of the evening.

Domestic Violence Services will host its 8th annual Peace Begins at Home dinner Oct. 16 at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Meadow Lands. Cash bar at 6 p.m.; dinner at 7. Tickets are $60. For details, call 724-223-5481.

Register by Oct. 10 for South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM) annual SHIM Shuffle 5K fun run/walk on Oct. 19 at the Montour Trail at George Washington Elementary School in Bethel Park.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the run/walk will follow at 9:30.

Fee is $10/individual and $30/families. Children under 5 are free. All registered participants age 5 and older are guaranteed a T-shirt. A post-shuffle shindig, which will include music, snacks, drinks and other family-friendly activities, will be held immediately at the conclusion of the 5K. Registered participants will be eligible for raffle prizes. Bring a non-perishable donation for the SHIM food pantries to receive additional raffle tickets.

“Howl at the Moon,” a fundraising event to benefit the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, will be held 7-11 p.m. Oct. 19 at The Mattress Factory art museum, Pittsburgh.

The venue will be open to the night sky for an indoor/outdoor experience to celebrate the full moon and Halloween. Enjoy live music, appetizers, snacks and open bar. Tarot, rune, palm and crystal readers will be available to guests, along with other games and surprises.

Attending in costume is encouraged and prizes will be awarded in multiple categories at 10 p.m. A silent auction and raffle will also benefit CCFA.

All-Night tickets (7-11 p.m.) are $125 per couple and include heavy appetizers. Witching Hour tickets (8 p.m. admission) are $100 per couple. Group and student rates (over 21) are also available, and tickets are on sale at the chapter’s website at www.ccfa.org/chapters/wpawv. Guests may also purchase tickets over the phone at 412-823-8272. Attendance is limited to 300. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available until Oct. 3.

The Dicey Chicks, a Pittsburgh-based Bunco group, will host its fourth biennial Roll for a Reason Bunco Oct. 19 in the Fellowship Hall of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair, to benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Roll for a Reason consists of three games of Bunco, separated by 20-minute intermissions for players to enjoy the dessert bar and participate in the basket raffle. For participants who have never played Bunco, the rules will be reviewed. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Play begins at 1:30. Registration is $20 per person before Oct. 5, and $30 per person after Oct. 5.

MGA’s 5th annual Pooch Parade will take place Oct. 27 at the South Park Ethelbert Shelter, near the doggie park and gazebo. Registration begins at 9 a.m.; walk begins at 10. Raffles for gift baskets, Steelers tickets and vacation, Halloween costume contest and vendor tables for dog lovers are included.

Fee of $25 for one walker and one dog will inclue a T-shirt, goody bag and doggie bandanna. Add $10 for second dog. Fee for walkers without dogs is $15.

Proceeds benefit Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA.
