A plaque has been discovered in the basement of the Chartiers Valley High School with the names of veterans from our community who perished in World War II.
Five Chartiers Valley juniors – Lauren Bittner, Amanda Mazzarini, Mitchel McDermott, Michael McGoogan and Rachel Jones – have taken time to research the names on the plaque to learn their stories. In addition to internet research, these students are requesting help from the community. Relatives and friends of the following veterans are asked to contact these students to share their story: George Trumpeter, Russell McConnell, Stanley Malinowski, Stanley Polanski, Charles McLaughlin, Kenneth Heasley, Leonard Facciotti, James McGrogan, John Turner, Joseph Garin, Owen Lewis, John King, Frank Wilson, George Woods, Harry Walls, John Stripp and Robert Yeager.
On May 23, Chartiers Valley will host a dedication ceremony to honor the sacrifice our local veterans have made for our country, and all veterans in the community are invited to attend along with the decedents of the departed who are memorialized on the plaque to be recognized in honor of their loved one.
Contact Kara Droney, director of communications, at 412-429-2390 or kdroney@cvsd.net with information about these local veterans.
