Bishop Canevin High School announced Kevin Trost as the new head coach for its boys’ varsity basketball team.

Trost comes to Bishop Canevin from North Hills High School, where he coached for a combined 12 years as a varsity assistant, helping the Indians to two WPIAL semifinals and a state playoff run. Before coaching at the high school level, Trost played basketball for Juniata College.

“We were diligent in our search for the best coach for our student athletes, and wanted one who has experienced success at a bigger program,” said athletic director Dan Bowman. “Kevin has the qualities and experience – playing college level basketball and coaching at a Quad-A WPIAL school – which will bring in a new era of basketball to our team. And, he has the character and integrity we require in people we hire to lead our students on and off the court,” added Bowman.

Above and beyond Trost’s coaching responsibilities, he plans to grow the basketball program by reinvigorating youth camp opportunities for local grade schools, using his experience from overseeing the youth programs at North Hills and North Allegheny.

The Crusaders play at the WPIAL’s AA level. They finished 4-18 overall and 1-11 in Section 4.

“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to work with Bishop Canevin athletes and hope to bring the program back to a level where we are consistently in the playoffs and competing for championships,” expressed Trost.
