Holy Week Services

At Christ U.M. Church, Bethel Park, the labyrinth and prayer stations will be a focus of Holy Week. Dorit Brauer, founder of the Brauer Institute for Holistic Medicine, will share her deep and profound belief in the healing power of labyrinths at 7 p.m. April 16. The presentation will be followed with a spiritual walk and the meditative experience of the healing crystal bowls. RSVP to the church.

• Service of Darkness, 7:30 p.m. April 18.

• Easter worship: casual includes baptismal renewal and communion 6 p.m. April 19; sunrise, 7 a.m.; cathedral with brass, 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m.; and contemporary with worship band, 10 and 11:30 a.m. April 20.

At St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg, Holy Thursday Mass will begin at 6:30 p.m. Participants for the Seven Church Visit will depart from the church parking lot at 8 p.m.

• On Good Friday, private prayer will begin at noon followed with a service at 1:30 and “Why Must He Die” is set for 7 p.m. April 18. Written and directed by Linda Wallace, the passion play is a meditation through music, drama and liturgical dance on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

• Decorate the church 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Holy Saturday. Blessing of Food will take place at 2 p.m.

• Easter Vigil Mass will begin at 8:30 p.m. April 19.

• Easter Sunday Masses will begin at 7:30 and 10 a.m. and noon.

At Peters Creek Presbyterian Church, Venetia, Holy Week services will include a 7 p.m. service on Maundy Thursday, April 17; and a Community Good Friday Worship service at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, located on Gateshead Drive in McMurray, at noon April 18. Easter Sunday services are planned at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

• Traditional Easter egg hunt, 9:45 a.m., complete with story time, music, crafts and snacks.

At John McMillan Presbyterian Church, Bethel Park, Easter worship will take place at 6:15 a.m. (Sunrise Service) followed by a continental breakfast at 7 and worship at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

At Christ the Redeemer Anglican Parish, Canonsburg, Holy Week services will include one 10 a.m. service on Palm Sunday, April 13 (no Saturday evening service), Stations of the Cross at 7 p.m. April 16, a 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday service with prayers and healing on April 17, and a 10 a.m. service on Easter Sunday.

At Chartiers Valley United Presbyterian Church, Carnegie, services will be observed at 10:30 a.m. Palm Sunday, 7:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday and 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday.

At the Church of the Atonement, Carnegie, Holy Week services will include a 9 a.m. service on Palm Sunday, April 13; a 7 p.m. service on Maundy Thursday; a 1 p.m. service on Good Friday; and a 9 a.m. service on Easter Sunday.

At St. David’s Episcopal Church, Venetia, Holy Week services will include: 10 a.m. Palm Sunday, April 13, with palm fronds and fronds crosses distributed and a coffee hour following; 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday with washing of the feet of those congregants wishing to participate, followed by stripping of the altar; noon-3 p.m. Good Friday, meditation and silent prayer; 10 a.m. Easter Sunday, children can have their Easter baskets blessed and participate in a traditional Easter egg hunt on the church grounds afterward.

At South Hills Assembly, Bethel Park, Easter Sunday services will be held at 9 and 11 a.m. April 20.

At St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carnegie, Maundy Thursday services will begin at 7 p.m. Eucharist and the liturgy will include stripping of the altar and procession of the cross. The adult choir will provide the music.

• A contemporary service will begin at 2 p.m. on Good Friday. A traditional service of the cross will begin at 7 p.m.

• Candlelight procession will begin at 6 p.m. for the Easter vigil on April 19.

• Resurrection of Jesus Christ will be celebrated with services at 8:15 and 11 a.m. and seasonal music. Easter breakfast will be available in Dittmer Hall.

At Calvary Full Gospel Church, Bridgeville/South Fayette, Explaining Passover will take place at 7 p.m. April 16. Rod Auria, acclaimed expert on Jewish customs and how they relate to Christianity, will speak on the Passover Seder.

• A Good Friday service will be held at noon April 18. An Easter Sunday service will take place at 10 a.m. April 20.

• Children’s Easter egg hunt, April 19. Call the church to register at 412-257-1707.

At The Bible Chapel, McMurray, a Passover Seder will be held 6-8:30 p.m. April 15 in the Family Life Center, South Hills campus. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $22/adult; $14/children under 12. Childcare available for newborn-age 5. Registration online at biblechapel.org before April 6.

• Journey to the Cross, 6-9 p.m. April 16 and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. April 18. Walk through Jesus’ last days and hours before his crucifixion.
