Peters Township Farmer’s Market will now have music
When members of St. David’s Episcopal Church asked permission from Peters Township Council for its first farmers’ market, the approval prohibited outdoor music. When requests from musical groups to perform at the market, set to begin May 28, began to flow into the church committee, members again appeared before council during a meeting April 28, to request a change and a motion was approved to delete the restriction on outdoor music.
The motion was not unanimous, as Councilwoman Monica Merrell voted against, saying she felt the committee should concentrate on organizing the first year of the market rather than expanding to include musical groups.
The Rev. Kris McInnes told council that musical groups expressing interest include a barbershop quartet, local singers, classical piano and guitar players from the high school and students at a local musical academy. He said there would be no bands.
Councilman Frank Arcuri voted for the revision, but added that if the music or parking became a problem, the new provision permitting music could be revoked by council.
The market will run from 3-7 p.m. every Wednesday through September. While other communities have had long-running farmers’ markets, the one at St. David’s will be the first in Peters Township.
In other action April 28, council,
• Delayed a requirement of a raised medial in the Whispering Pines plan being developed by Ted Taylor III. Taylor said requiring the medial would inhibit trucks from accessing the roads during and after construction.
• Approved the 21-lot subdivision on Ironwood Estates, a new trend in conservational development. The plan is on a steep parcel off Boyer Road.
• Approved the final site plan for the Crossings-Sheriff’s Court plan by Eddy Land Co. that will permit driveways and entrances to planned patio homes to be from the front, and will also allow for the removal of trees on Sheriff’s Court as well as parallel parking on the road.
• Denied a request by Seitel & McDonald Land Service to place wireless sensors in Rees Park and on township open space in the Great Meadows plan. The motion failed by a vote of 3-4 with members Robert Lewis, Arcuri, Merrell, and James Berquest voting no.
• Unanimously approved changes to the motor vehicle ordinance adding a stop sign for Center Church Road, changing the yield on Glenn Drive to a stop, as Circle Drive has additional traffic, revising the ordinance to change the 15 mph speed limits that are not enforceable, and also changing Hays Road to have a no parking section because of the width and volume of traffic.
• Approved recommendations from the township Parks and Recreation Board to include field improvements and three new scoreboards on fields in Peterswood Park. The signs will be funded by the township softball and baseball associations.
