‘Dear Mr. Watterson’
The ToonSeum and Pittsburgh Filmmakers are pairing up to present a screening of the 2013 documentary, “Dear Mr. Watterson,” 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Harris Theater, Downtown. A Q&A with ToonSeum Director Joe Wos will follow the screening.
Calvin & Hobbes dominated the Sunday comics in thousands of newspapers for more than 10 years. When creator Bill Watterson retired the strip on New Year’s Eve in 1995, devoted readers everywhere felt the void. Watterson has kept a low profile during this time, living a very private life outside of Cleveland, Ohio. This film is not a quest to find Watterson, or to invade his privacy, rather it is an exploration to discover why his ‘simple’ comic strip made such an impact on so many readers in the ’80s and ’90s, and why it still means so much to devoted fans today.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or online at www.showclix.com/event/DearMrWatterson.
