1 min read

A McMurray man was wounded the evening of Aug. 17 in a muzzleloader mishap at Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club.

John Provident III, 51, sustained burns and lacerations to an elbow, according to police from North Strabane Township, where the club is located on Linden Road.

He was transported by medical helicopter from Wylandville Elementary School on Route 519 to Pittsburgh’s Allegheny General Hospital, where he was listed in good condition Sunday night, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Police said they weren’t sure what happened in the incident, which occurred about 6:20 p.m.

They reported Provident may have been practicing, and, when he took a second shot, there was a small explosion, possibly related to powder.

The muzzleloader, police said, remained intact.
