Peters Township wins sixth straight Chairman’s Cup

The Peters Township boys’ varsity golf team shot an 8-over par 368 and captured its sixth straight Chairman’s Cup.

Juniors Jake Sollon and Alec Stopperich fired 2-under par 70’s on the 6,420 yard gold course at Cedarbrook and claimed co-medalist honors.

Freshman Hunter Bruce (73), sophomore Tanner Johnson (77), junior Connor Schmidt (78) and Ben Morgret (78) completed PT’s scoring.

North Allegheny earned runner-up honors with a 398 score. Senior Martin Lazzaro led the Tigers with a 77.

Playing as an individual, Christian Ordonez placed among the top 10 medal winners. The PT junior carded a 77. JW Cunningham and Alex Martin also golfed as individuals for the Indians.

In the AA boys division, Sewickley Academy won its third consecutive Chairman’s Cup with a score of 399. Senior Chris Johnson led the Panthers with a 79.

In the girls’ competition, Peters Township made it two in a row, claiming the cup with a 317 score.

Sophomore Mia Kness fired a 3-over par 74 on the red course to earn medalist honors. Junior Synclaire Kuhn followed with a 76. Sophomores Brooke Hilden (80) and Alyssa Parham (87) followed for the Indians.

Peters completed the trifecta by winning the junior varsity division. The Indians scored a 416, 10 shots ahead of Sewickley Academy.

Tyler Lawrence (82), Trevor Thomas (83), Michael Bell (83), Brian Livolsi (84) and Matt Petrisin (84) led the Indians.

Bethel Park finished third in the varsity boys’ standings in the competition. Justin Hyrb, John Selep, Ben Wallace, Josh Gatti and Derek Miller contributed to the Hawks’ showing.

The BP JV also took third. Zack Sedor, Masson Miller, Caleb Pierson, Tyler Hood and Kevin Yost paced the Hawks.

PT beats Foxes

Peters Township defeated Fox Chapel, 191-199, to raise its record to 4-0 this season. Alex Stopperich shot a 1-under-par 35 at Rolling Hills Country Club and earned medalist honors. Tanner Johnson and Ben Morgret followed with 38s while Jake Sollon carded a 39 and Connor Schmidt added a 41. JW Cunningham, Alex Martin and Christian Ordonez also participated in the match.

Lacinski leads SF

Alec Lacinski fired a 36 and grabbed medalist honors as South Fayette defeated East Allegheny, 19-3-285, in boys’ golf.

Kness leads PT

Mia Kness fired a 37 at the Irwin Country Club and paced Peters Township to victory, 156-184, against Penn-Trafford in girls’ varsity golf. Brooke Hilden (38), Synclaire Kuhn (39), Alyssa Parham (42) and Allison Magyar (42) also contributed to the win.

PT wins again

For the second consecutive year, Peters Township captured top honors at the Central Dauphin Boys Invitational. The exhibition event featured 21 teams and 105 total players from across the state of Pennsylvania. The PT ‘White’ was the only team to have all five players break 80 in the ‘Play 5 count 4’ match played at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course in Harrisburg from the Blue tees at 6,756 yards. Juniors Alec Stopperich and Jake Sollon fired 1-under par 71s, Ben Morgret (75), Tanner Johnson and Connor Schmidt (78s) also contributed to the 295 total. The PT ‘Red’ squad tied for sixth place. JW Cunningham led with a 75 followed by Alex Martin (76), Christian Ordonez and Brian Livolsi (80s)and Hunter Bruce (81).
