Salary increases for Mt. Lebanon School District staff

Mt. Lebanon’s school board approved a number of salary increases for staff at its Aug. 18 meeting. Salaries for 10-month clerical employees, aides and personal care assistants will increase 2.89 percent, while food service employees and teachers will receive 3.05 and 4.15 percent increases, respectively. Those figures reflect averages over the duration of each group’s contract.

The board vote is a symbolic gesture for public information purposes. The salary increases are contractual obligations.

Superintendent Dr. Tim Steinhauer’s salary is already set for the coming school year. In Sept. 2013, the board approved a five-year contract for a $175,000 annual salary for Steinhauer from July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2019.

School board president Elaine Cappucci said the staff and superintendent had done an exceptional job over the past school year, adding that their efforts resulted in Mt. Lebanon being recognized in a number of nationally-known publications, including Newsweek and The Washington Post.

“These increases are one way of showing appreciation for the great job all of our staff does,” Cappucci said.

Finally, the board approved approximately $145,000 in change orders for the district’s high school renovation project, including modifications to a number of structural features such as stairs, ceilings and bathrooms. The cost will also cover changes to the swimming pool railing and power for computers in the school library.
