Two Bethel Park Schools receive Governor’s Award for Excellence in Academics
Two Bethel Park School District schools are flying banners recognizing them as winners of the Governor’s Award for Excellence In Academics.
Neil Armstrong Middle School and George Washington Elementary School are among 428 Pennsylvania schools to earn the award for the 2012-2013 school year.
NAMS principal Michael Brookie and George Washington principal Fred Pearson accepted the banners for their schools during a recent school board meeting.
“We are extremely proud of your leadership as well as the commitment to excellence from your staff and students,” Superintendent Nancy Rose told Brookie and Pearson. “Your schools worked very hard to earn this well deserved recognition.”
Neil Armstrong earned a score of 93.2 percent and George Washington earned a 94.5. Schools must earn a score of 90 percent or above to win the award.
Overall, the district earned an 89.9, which is higher than the Allegheny County average of 79.1 and the state average of 78.9.
The score is based on several measures of student academic achievement including academic growth, performance on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment and attendance rate, Rose said.
