Golf round-up
SLS girls strong
The Seton-La Salle girls’ golf team defeated Mt. Lebanon, 201-203, in a non-section match and beat Ambridge, 196-228, at Frosty Valley Golf Links.
Senior Joey Walz, last year’s PIAA runner-up, has led the way, along with junior Maddie Leya and sophomore Emily Figliolia. Senior Jackie Harbison has also contributed to the Lady Rebels’ success along with junior Helen Nee and sophomores Mary Kutschke, Ashley McCay and Mackenzie Oravec.
“We have come to count on Joey over the years,” said SLS head coach Tim Zugates of Walz, who fired a 37 versus Ambridge. “Yet, our younger girls are working on their game and gaining confidence in their ability. I believe we are a legitimate threat to compete for a team championship in the section and in the WPIAL.”
PT beats Trinity
Freshman Hunter Bruce carded a 37 and paced Peters Township to victory, 190-228, over Trinity in a Section 7, Division I boys’ golf match played at Rolling Hills Country Club. Jake Sollon, Ben Morgret and Tanner Johnson all followed with 38 scores while Alex Stopperich and Connor Schmidts finished with 39s.
