Something stinks in Scott Township.

According to commissioner Eileen Meyers, the Glendale area of the municipality has been “inundated with skunks.”

“The smell is horrendous,” she said.

In addition to receiving calls about the odor, Meyers told fellow board members that skunks have been seen walking toward the park.

Local animal control does not pick up skunks, but they recommended Big Dan’s Animal Control, which charges $60 for consultation and $60 for each skunk removed. The board voted to approve up to $1,000 for Big Dan’s Animal Control to remove skunks from the Glendale area.

Also discussed at the board’s Aug. 26 regular meeting was when construction on Swallow Hill Road would be completed. Commissioner Tom Castello commented that Golden Triangle Construction Company, Inc. said the project would be done before school started.

The first football game is Aug. 29, said Castello, and they’re still working.

Commissioner Bill Wells walks by the construction each day and said they are working every day unless it’s raining. Wells said he recently spoke with one of the employees, who indicated that there is about another four to six weeks of work to be done.

Commissioner Dave Calabria said that while no one wants to hear excuses, the rain this summer would have caused some of the delays. Calabria also thought the project was delayed about a month because of work done by the gas company.

In other business, the board voted to approve a lease agreement between the township and SHACOG for offices at 2600 Old Greentree Road. The lease agreement is for a period of five years, effective Sep. 1, 2014, at a rental rate of $1,000 per month.
