Sewer, budget issues discussed in Scott

By Terry Kish 2 min read

Scott officials have had complaints about sewers on Claireview Drive since 1976, when it was discovered that the sewer line was not deep enough to serve at least six of the houses on the street. The developers, instead of correcting the situation, placed a wildcat line to serve the homes. The home owners were never informed of this line and there were never any private easements recorded on their deeds.

But at the Nov. 25 Scott commissioners’ meeting, planning commission member Mark Mox offered to work with township engineer Larry Lennon to make recommendations about sewer repairs on Claireview, an offer the board unanimously approved. Commissioner Bill Wells commented that it was “great” that the board was going to work with Mox.

In other business, the board voted to advertise their 2015 budget for public inspection.

In a 5-4 vote, the board approved advertising the 2015 budget levy ordinance, which includes a proposed one mil increase for capital improvements. Voting for advertising the budget levy ordinance were commissioners Pat Caruso, Tom Castello, Stacy Altman, Don Giudici and David Jason, while commissioners Eileen Meyers, Dave Caruso, Bill Wells, and Craig Stephens voted against.

Commissioner Giudici made a motion that a half mil of the proposed tax increase be used for storm water management projects, and the other half mil be used for other capital improvement projects. Giudici’s motion passed in a 6-3 vote with commissioners Caruso, Castello, Giudici, Calabria, Altman, and Jason voting “yes” and commissioners Meyers, Stephenson, and Wells voting “no.”

The board also voted to advertise the 2015 budget ordinance, which would set the township’s new millage rate at 5.33 mils.
