FIRST Robotics Event & Technology Career Fair set for Dec. 13

By Stephanie Wang 2 min read

Normally, when you picture a robotics team, you’d probably picture a group of technology nerds, huddled around laptops and circuit boards. The Titanium Titans FIRST Robotics Team #4467 proves that stereotype wrong, by being outgoing students who seek to give back to their community.

What makes the Titanium Titans different is that they not only engage in robotics competitions as a team, but also impact their communities by providing STEM learning opportunities to students of all ages. This summer, the Titanium Titans hosted technology workshops for more than 200 students in Western PA to encourage interest in engineering in younger students.

On Dec. 13, the Titanium Titans will host a First Tech Challenge Scrimmage & Technology Career Fair from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Peters Township Middle School gym. FTC Teams throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio will battle it out in a full 2-on-2 FTC competition. Students on these FTC teams will generally be from grades 7-12 and new to building a robot.

The event will also feature a Technology Career Fair coordinated by the Peters Township Middle School from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Colleges and local area technology companies will be on hand to provide information on technology career paths for students to consider. Additionally, the event will feature guest speaker Steve Reed, senior engineer from Westinghouse, who will kick off the opening ceremonies at 10:15 a.m. by talking about what an engineer really does from day-to-day. The Titanium Titans will be demoing its 2014 competition robot and talking to students about what it’s like to build industrial-grade robots.

Regardless of whether you’re an engineering whiz or simply curious about the world of robotics, there’s something for everyone at this free event that is open to the public. Food, drinks and toffee from the Toffee House will be sold throughout the day.
