Mt. Lebanon School District soliciting bids for rifle range
Mt. Lebanon School District will solicit bids for a new high school rifle range in the next four weeks, according to information presented at the Dec. 8 school board meeting.
Prior to putting the project out to bid, architect Cell-Flynn Brennan will submit the plans to the local police and fire departments for additional review.
School board member Dan Remely felt it was important to have the plans reviewed prior to the bidding process, in case municipal officials desire changes. “We had a lot of changes on this high school project because of that,” he said.
Architect Kathy Stoughton assured the board that the plans did not differ significantly from those local authorities reviewed and approved prior to the school renovation project being bid. At that time the rifle range had been included in the project as an alternate item.
The school board has since chosen to look at funding the range as a capital project separate from the renovation budget.
Bids would likely be received in February for review by the school board. Should all go to plan, the high school rifle team could be practicing in the new facility during its 2015 season, superintendent Dr. Timothy Steinhauer said.
The school board also welcomed Lawrence Lebowitz as its new president, and Mary Birks as vice president during the meeting. Lebowitz and Birks were elected to their new positions at a Dec. 1 reorganization meeting.
