Voces Solis: A Yuletide Concert

Voces Solis, an ensemble of The Summer Singers returns to the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall to perform a free end-of-the-holidays concert at 2 p.m. Jan. 3. A dessert reception with the singers will follow the concert.

The Summer Singers began informally four summers ago to provide teachers, students, artists and elite choir alumni an outlet for choral singing for eight weeks of the year. It has evolved into large ensemble comprised of singers from all occupations who share a passion for excellence in choral singing. Voces Solis, the group’s smaller chamber ensemble, allows opportunity for a core group of singers to focus on further vocal refinement.

This year’s concert will feature songs ranging from the classical with “Sicut Locutus Est” from Bach’s “Magnificat” to the American choral tradition with F. Melius Christiansen’s “Lost in the Night” to the challenging contemporary music of Abbie Betinis with “Cedit, Hyems.” Songs will be conducted by Ryan Keeling, Erich Lascek, Bryan Sable and Maura Underwood. Matt Brown will be Voces Solis’s accompanist.

Voces Solis’ Yuletide Concert lasts about an hour. This short, intermission-less performance is a great opportunity to introduce children to beautiful choral music.
