The much anticipated $15 million SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Mt. Lebanon is set to open its doors to the public Dec. 28.

“It will be a soft opening,” said Cindy Grubisa, general manager of the seven-floor, 108-room hotel that sits in the middle of Mt. Lebanon’s business district on the 600 block of Washington Road across from Rolliers Hardware. She said the hotel, which will employ around 20, has yet to make plans for a grand opening, but did say they have already received room reservations.

The hotel is being developed by Kratsa Properties of Harmar Township on the site of former North Parking Lot space. The hotel project itself had initially been scheduled to be completed more than a year ago, but had been faced with a number of delays, such as the discovery of an underground fuel storage tank, which has since been rectified, according to previous reports.

SpringHill Suites is Marriott’s all-suites hotel product that is in the upper-moderate price range. Rooms feature a kitchenette with a microwave, refrigerator, a work area, as well as a seating area that features a pull-out sofa. The hotel offers free breakfast, free Wi-Fi and an on-site business center, plus a fitness center and swimming pool.

It’s hoped that the hotel will be a suburban option for those needing a hotel room. It is also hoped the new hotel will be able to take advantage of its close proximity to the nearby light-rail line.

News that the long-awaited hotel will finally open its doors was welcomed by nearby businesses.

Kirk Satterfield, one of the owners of Rolliers Hardware, said all of the businesses that located in Mt. Lebanon’s main business district on Washington Road will benefit from the hotel.

“Our store should benefit,” Satterfield said. “People will come in and check out the store. It is a fun store to meander around in. The local restaurants should benefit too. It will be a real asset.”

Tom Macik, owner of the Celtic Cross gift shop in the 700 block of Washington Road, agreed.

“The hotel will bring a lot of out of towners in,” Macik said. “It will be good for the business district.”
