Fundraisers – Feb. 5
The Pittsburgh Pirates, play-by-play announcer Greg Brown and Joe Nichols will host a special acoustic show at Stage AE on the North Shore on Feb. 6 for the children of Pressley Ridge, a local non-profit organization helping children and families. The special afternoon Joe Nichols show will also feature Greg Brown, the Pirate Parrot and special Pirate giveaway items for the children, courtesy of Pirates Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Pirates.
The Special Acoustic Show is part of a Pressley Ridge benefit concert being held Feb. 6 with gates opening at 6 p.m. and featuring country music stars Joe Nichols and Uncle Kracker. Local favorites The Stickers and The Joseph Sisters will also be opening the show starting at 6:30 p.m.
Pirates Charities and Joe Nichols will also be teaming up to offer a special giveaway of VIP concert tickets to the show, a meet and greet with Joe Nichols, and a trip to Pirates Spring Training in Bradenton, Florida as part of the benefit concert that same evening.
“We are thrilled to be holding our benefit concert at Stage AE. Their support helps us to further our mission of doing whatever it takes to create success for children and families. And we can’t thank Joe Nichols and Uncle Kracker enough for being a part of this special performance. We’re extremely grateful,” said Pressley Ridge Chief Development Officer Eddie Yongo.
Tickets for the concert are on-sale at all Ticketmaster locations and through ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices for the benefit concert range from $25-$35, with proceeds of the concert benefitting Pressley Ridge.
Former Pittsburgh Steeler Justin Hartwig will be emceeing the Community Options, Inc.’s annual Cupid’s Chase National 5K Run on Feb. 8 on Pittsburgh’s North Shore. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the race takes place at 10 a.m. For more information or to register, visit www.comop.org/cupidschase.
The OCA, Asian Pacific American Advocates will host its Year of the Horse Lunar New Year Banquet on Feb. 8 at the Syria Shriners Center in Cheswick. The annual event is open to the public and features a family-style 12-course Mandarin dinner.
Highlights include guest of honor Roberto Clemente Jr., traditional dances by OCA Youth Performance Ensamble and a performance by “American Idol” finalist Tim Urban. Attire is festive and dressy. Tickets are $50-$65.

Washington City Mission’s 20th Annual Sweet Sunday takes place Feb. 9 at the Southpointe Hilton Garden Inn. Guests will enjoy an array of delicious desserts, entertainment and family activities. Lending Hearts, a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of youth battling cancer, will hold its Second Annual Lending Hearts Gala Feb. 27 at the LeMont Restaurant, Pittsburgh. The event will honor ESPN Analyst and former Pittsburgh Steeler Merril Hoge, who in 2003 was diagnosed with stage two non-hodgkin’s lymphoma.
The evening kicks off at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception followed by dinner.
KDKA Director of Sports Bob Pompeani will emcee the event.

Firefighters and advocates for healthier air will raise awareness for clean air step by step by walking up 897 steps (45 floors) of One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., Downtown Pittsburgh, on March 22. The annual Fight for Air climb raises funds for the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania.
