Carr wins title

Nick Carr continued his strong start as a wrestler for Washington & Jefferson College when he captured the 165-pound title during the John Summa Wrestling Tournament held at Baldwin-Wallace College.
The Presidents placed sixth out of nine teams with 77 points. Waynesburg won the team championship with 130 points followed by Thiel (113.5), Brockport State (107), Baldwin-Wallace (83) and Ohio Northern (80.5) in the top five.
Making his second appearance in a Red & Black uniform, Carr notched three close victories to improve to 4-0. He defeated Thiel’s Tyler Wilkes 5-2 and B-W’s David Shapiro 5-3 to advance to the title match against Roy Daniels, the fifth-ranked wrestler in the latest D3wrestle.com national rankings.
Carr made a statement with a 5-2 victory over Daniels, who is also ranked sixth by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Carr arrived at W&J after transferring mid-year from Division II Seton Hill. Prior to that, he wrestled for two seasons at Kent State, compiling a 12-4 record in 2012 and at 21-10 record last season.
The South Fayette native, who was the 2010 PIAA state champion, earned Wrestler of the Week honors from D3wrestle.com after his successful showing in the tournament.
