Washington County Parks is offering a homeschool outdoor classroom at Mingo Creek Park on Feb. 13. Tricky Tracks will be held at the park office for ages 5-11. Session I begins at 10 a.m.; session II at 1 p.m.

Identify samples of animal tracks and make a plaster cast to take home.

La Roche College will hold Meet Design, an all-day event for high school juniors and seniors to explore creative careers in the fields of graphic and interior design, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 17 at the main campus. Hands-on design project followed by a question-and-answer session with current La Roche students, faculty and outside professionals. Parents can learn more about La Roche’s admissions process, financial aid, tutoring and academic support and career services. Keystone Oaks junior Toni DiPippa was named the Parkway West Career & Technology Center’s Student of the Month for December.

DiPippa, who is in Parkway’s Health Assistant program, hopes to one day be a traveling nurse when she graduates.

DiPippa is in her second year at Parkway and was nominated for the same award last year.

The Mt. Lebanon Band Builders will host a spaghetti dinner 4-8 p.m. March 1 in the high school cafeteria (final seating at 7:15), featuring meatballs, side salad, baked rolls, beverages and a dessert table at center court.

There will be performances by Mt. Lebanon High School band ensembles, a 50/50 raffle and specialty baskets in the Chinese raffle.

Dine-in at Entrance C28 at the rear of the building (park in the south lot). Drive-thru service at entrance D40 at the north end parking lot.

Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for children under 10 and are available from band members or at the door. Children age 2 and under are free. Proceeds help raise funds for future band trips.

The Peters Township Dance Team will hold its annual spring hip hop dance clinic, “Shamrock Shake,” March 16 at Peters Township High School.

Sign-in begins at 12:30 p.m. The clinic will take place from 1-3:30 with the performance following at 3:45.

The clinic is open to girls and boys in grades K-8 and high school students. Special instruction will be offered to eighth through 11th-graders interested in trying out for the PTHS Dance Team.

Cost is $30 for those preregistering by March 3, and $25 for other members of the same household (no refunds will be given after March 3). Checks should be made payable to: PTHS Dance Boosters. Registration includes a T-shirt, snack and drink.

Ligonier Valley Writers’ 23rd annual Student Poetry Contest for poets in grades 4 through 12 is now open to submissions. Cash prizes will be awarded at all grade levels in different forms of poetry, from haiku to rhymed forms.

Entry forms can be obtained at www.LVWonline.org or by contacting LVW publicity director Judith Gallagher at jgallagher@LVWonline.org or 724-593-7294. A tutorial on how to write a poem is posted on the website. Homeschoolers are welcome.

Winning submissions can receive up to $20 for a poem. Deadline for submissions is March 11.

The awards ceremony for the winners of the contest will take place at 4 p.m. April 26 at Barnes & Noble, Greensburg. Thirty cash awards will be handed out.
