The Bethel Park Lions Prize Party will be held at 6 p.m. March 8 at the Bethel Park Community Center. Tickets are $50 with a $1,000 grand prize. The borough is seeking applications for part-time summer help. In the public works department, applicants must be college age for outdoor labor. The deadline to apply is March 14. The Mt. Lebanon Partnership announces that the proceeds from Plein Air Mt. Lebanon 2013, a week-long outdoor painting event, are being made available through a mini-grant program.

The Mt. Lebanon Arts Initiative, whose mission is to enrich the arts in the community, anticipates that two to four grants will be awarded from the grant pool of $3,000.

Artists, both youth and adult, with a primary residence in Mt. Lebanon may apply. The grants will support an individual artist’s creativity and also will benefit the community. Grants are designed to allow the artist to stretch their talent, and produce a new work that represents that energy. Each award winner will need to share their creation in a public forum of their choice.

Categories include music, dance, film/digital arts, visual arts and theater arts. Applications will be assessed by a review panel with a range of arts expertise. To download the Mini Grant Application, visit pleinairmtl.com/arts-initiative/.

The Canon-McMIllan Concert for Luke, a fundraiser benefitting Luke Balnock, will take place 7-10 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Canon-McMillan High School auditorium. Local bands will perform.

Blanock is a student who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Proceeds from the concert will go toward the high medical costs his family will incur during months of chemotherapy.

The township is seeking a township resident to fill a part-time receptionist/clerk position. The employee will work 20 hours per week between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and duties will include a variety of clerical functions such as light typing and processing mail. The hourly rate is $10.

• Peters Township Youth Cheerleading Association (PTYCA) will hold an informational meeting from 7-8 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Peters Township Rec Center. Parents will receive information regarding upcoming registration, uniform requirements, parent and cheerleader responsibilities, fundraising and much more at the meeting. All new and existing PTYCA parents are encouraged to attend.

State Rep. Dan Miller, D-Mt. Lebanon, announced Rob Oliver, author of “Still Walking” and a motivational speaker, will be the keynote speaker at Children and Youth Disability and Mental Health Summit March 5 at Beth El Congregation, 1900 Cochran Road.

At the age of 12, Oliver suffered a spinal cord injury while surfing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The injury left him paralyzed from the chest down with limited use of his arms and hands. He then focused his efforts on completing school and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, and a master’s degree from Duquesne University. He works for the Disability Rights Network training individuals and organizations to be personal and systemic advocates.

German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue PA will hold a Meet-The-Breeds at the Washington PETCO at Trinity Point from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 22.

Six pure-breed rescue groups will be on hand, including New Life Boxer Rescue, Hello Bully, PA Great Dane Rescue, German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue, Hurry Home Hounds and Golden Retrievers in Need.

The Canine Cancer Foundation will help pet parents learn how to prevent and treat canine cancer. PETCO will celebrate Adopt A Rescued Rabbit Month.

The Southwest Chamber of Commerce will hold another seminar presented by Cindy Neky, president of Marketing Pathways, about simple strategies for success. Learn how to master email marketing communications to increase profits and engage a larger audience. The event will be held 8-10 a.m. Feb. 27 in the Upper St. Clair Recreation Center, 1551 Mayview Road. There will be a final program March 27. Call the chamber office for additional information. Washington & Jefferson College will host two free financial aid seminars Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Howard J. Burnett Center’s Yost Auditorium for families looking to secure financial aid to help fund the cost of college.

The program will explain how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that is required to qualify for most student aid programs such as the Pennsylvania State Grant, Federal Pell Grant, institutional awards and low-cost federal student and parent loans. Information will be the same at both seminars.
