The Unmasking Fear, Building Hope masquerade ball hosted by the Mt. Lebanon Junior Women’s Club on March 1 will raise funds for A Child’s Place at Mercy’s new Child Advocacy Center in Washington County. The event takes place at Duquesne University’s Power Center Ballroom, and will feature Mardi Gras flair. Hollywood glamour comes to the South Hills as The Denis Theatre Foundation holds its annual Red Carpet Party at the Walnut Grill in Mt. Lebanon March 2. The event is a must for film buffs and those who love a lively party.
The night promises to transport you from the cold of Western Pennsylvania to the heat of Hollywood. From 6-7 p.m., a $75 VIP pre-party will feature a complimentary flute of champagne, hors d’oeuvres and a Hollywood trivia game with prizes.
For $35, join the fun at 7 p.m. and enjoy signature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and Oscar bingo.

National non-profit the Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation, in partnership with the UPMC Cancer Centers, is hosting the Fourth Annual “Cookies4Chris” on 11 a.m.-3 p.m. March 2, at South Hills Country Club.
The “world famous” Pittsburgh cookie table is a long time tradition at Pittsburgh weddings of offering homemade cookies lovingly baked by family and friends to each guest as a personal thank you. The Foundation is named after Christine “Chris” Sapienza, a Pittsburgh native, loving wife, mother, musician and small business owner who touched many lives and lost her battle with colon cancer. Chris’ son, Michael Sapienza, created the foundation. Chris was well known for sharing her specialty treats to many such occasions. Weeks leading up to the Cookies4Chris event, Pittsburgh residents of all ages spend countless hours baking, decorating and coordinating thousands of hand crafted treats that will create the elaborate cookie display.
The luncheon will also include local vendors, auctions, live entertainment and door prizes. The event will be emceed by Shelley Duffy, co-host of 100.7 Star Morning Show & KDKA Lifestyle Editor. Grammy-nominated, Irish-American super group Cherish the Ladies will return to Pittsburgh for the first time in more than a decade as the featured guests at the 18th annual Irish Night – Row On for Brendan, a evening of Irish music and dance set for 7:30 p.m. March 2 at Central Catholic High School, Oakland.
Irish Night – Row On for Brendan is an annual tribute to the memory of Brendan Foley, who died at age 15 in 1996 following a motor vehicle accident. Brendan was a popular member of the band and the rowing team at Central Catholic High School in Oakland. Brendan’s parents, Bruce Foley and Maggie Folan, began the annual concert as a way to keep their son’s memory alive. “He was a very special boy, and even though we’re sad he’s not here anymore, we’re so proud that we can honor him with this great tradition,” said Bruce Foley.
Irish Night benefits the Central Catholic and Oakland Catholic rowing teams.

The 19th annual Empty Bowls dinner benefitting the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Just Harvest will take place from 2-6 p.m. March 2 at Rodef Shalom Congregation, located on Fifth Avenue in Oakland.
This simple meal of soup and bread to fight hunger will include local personality soup-servers, live entertainment, children’s activities, soup-to-go, bake sale and silent auction of world-class ceramic art and celebrity-autographed bowls. Ticket holders may choose a hand-made bowl to take home.

In a milestone year for the organization, The Homeless Children’s Education Fund (HCEF) will host its 15th annual Champions for Children Benefit 6-9 p.m. March 3. The awards program, which takes place at The Rivers Club, will recognize 13 local organizations as the 2014 Champion for Children honorees for their unwavering support since the early beginnings of the organization.
Guests are invited to dine, network and participate in silent auctions with all proceeds directly supporting HCEF educational programming. This year, the event will provide significant funding for the organization’s new scholarship program, which is designed for youth (who have experienced homelessness) during their pursuit of higher education.

Larry Richert Honors our Hometown Heroes will be held at 5:30 p.m. March 6 at the Lexus Club at PNC Park. Pittsburgh Pirates President Frank Coonelly will serve as the keynote speaker and Jason Braase, a member of Warriors Speak, a Wounded Warrior Project program, will also serve as a guest speaker. Larry’s Heroes honors five ordinary individuals in the community who have done extraordinary things. Each hero will receive a $1,000 donation to a charity of their choice.

Ward Home, Pittsburgh’s leading provider of independent living programs for at-risk teenagers, is hosting its annual fundraising event, Picture This! from 6-9 p.m. March 29 at the Pittsburgh Glass Center. The event will help Ward Home enhance programming opportunities, improve living facilities and increase educational support.
Picture This! will feature art work created by Ward Home teens in the form of glass mosaics and photography.
