Nancy Ewell Geer of Mt. Lebanon was chosen as the recipient of the Women’s Business Network (WBN) 2013 Jean Walsh Scholarship Award. She will be applying the scholarship grant toward continuing education to take a certificate course in social media for business.
Geer came to Pittsburgh to earn a master of arts in English from Carnegie-Mellon University. She worked in the creative services department of KDKA-TV, produced interactive programming for Warner Cable QUBE then worked as copy director for Kaufmann’s Department Store and from home as a freelance writer for various retail advertisers, trade show exhibitors and advertising agencies. Currently, she is a partner in Geer Communications, where she works on the planning and executing of large promotional campaigns, image campaigns, product launches, fashion and retail sale advertising, informational brochures, special events and fund raisers. More recently, she has become involved in working on social networking for her various clients. Ewell Geer is also an account executive for Cronmiller Marketing, a full-service sales promotion merchandising firm.
She is active in her local community as a member of the Mt. Lebanon chapter of WBN, vice president of the Friends of Mount Lebanon Percussion, and also volunteers her time in her local school district. She and her husband, Roy, have two sons, Spencer and Steven.
Tanya Chothani, a history teacher at Upper St. Clair High School, was nominated for the Russell Galt Award for outstanding high school educators from Susquehanna University. The award was presented during Susquehanna’s annual University Scholars recognition dinner in November.
Chothani was nominated for the honor by Samantha Rodriguez, a sophomore at Susquehanna. Rodriguez nominated Chothani for the award because, “she served as a mentor for me and all of her students.”
