Registration for Mt. Lebanon High School’s preschool program is now open. To be eligible, children must be at least age 3 ½ years old and no older than 4 years, 10 months by March 17, 2014. The program is operated by high school students enrolled in the Advanced Child Development Course under the supervision of the child development teacher. The program runs from March 17-May 22, Monday through Thursday from 9:10-10:40 a.m. The cost is $65. Registration deadline is Feb. 14. For information, call 412-344-2023.

La Roche College will hold a free Financial Aid Community Night from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Ryan Room in the Zappala College Center at the college’s main campus in the North Hills.

Financial Aid Community Night will provide an overview of financial aid and the application process, a question and answer session, and a demonstration on how to complete the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Counselors from La Roche’s Office of Financial Aid will be on hand to explain the process and answer questions.

The Forensic Team at St. Louise de Marillac Elementary School earned a nearly perfect score of 138 out of 140 points at the Southwestern Pennsylvania State Forensics League’s tournament. Led by St. Louise teacher Maureen Galardini, the students competed against parochial, private and public schools across the region to earn 27 first places and one second place in a variety of public speaking categories.

Benjamin Edwards, social studies teacher at Upper St. Clair High School, has earned the distinction as a second diamond coach in the National Forensic League after earning 3,132.90 points. The National Forensic League is the honor society for middle and high school speech and debate. Edwards will receive special recognition at the National Forensic League National Speech & Debate Tournament in Overland Park, Kansas, on June 19, 2014, which draws more than 5,000 students, coaches and parents from across the nation.

Edwards has been a teacher at Upper St. Clair High School since September 2011 and has been the High School Forensic Coach since August 2001.
