There will be no library Fill A Bag of Books sale in January.
• It may still be winter, but the first Bridgeville Farmers’ Market will be held June 23. Volunteers are needed to help with marketing.
First Street Elementary School is collecting food through Jan. 23 for the annual food drive to benefit the Canonsburg Food Bank. Food may be dropped off at the school 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on school days.
Pavilion rentals for 2014 for residents only begins at 6 a.m. March 7. Non-residents may begin to make reservations at 8 a.m. March 14.
Residents are permitted to place Christmas trees at the curb for the regular Tuesday pickups. Since there is no special pick up week, trees may be placed out near the garbage cans or bags for any regular collection.
The Community Day Ice Skating Party will be held from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 26 at the South Park Ice Skating Rink. There is a special admission price for Green Tree residents only. The cost is $3 for Green Tree adults and $2 for children. Skate rental is $2.
• The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium Zoomobile will be at the Green Tree first hall on Popular Street at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 21. The cost is $3 for Green Tree residents and $5 for non-residents.
The Zoomobile will bring some zoo animals. The program will give children a hands-on adventure with information and games about the various animal adaptations, survival teaching and facts about the animals.
Some snacks will be served at the after-school program. There is a limit of 30.
Forms are available online at www.greentreeboro.com. Drop off the form and payment at the Green Tree municipal building 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Mt. Lebanon High School will offer a preschool program for 3- and 4-year-olds. To be eligible, children must be at least age 3 1/2 by March 17, and 4-year-olds must be no older than 4 years, 10 months, by March 17.
The program is operated by high school students enrolled in the Advanced Child Development Course under the supervision of the child development teacher.
The program will run March 17-May 22 and children will attend from 9:10 a.m.-10:40 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Cost is $65 and deadline for application is Feb. 14.
Construction at the high school will not impact the program. For information, call 412-2033.
• Mt. Lebanon is seeking a qualified resident to fill an unexpired term on the volunteer Parking Facility Advisory Board. Created in 2012, the board’s mission is to review issues involving parking and make recommendations to the municipal commission concerning public parking operations and facilities. Responsibilities include reviewing parking studies and plans, information concerning parking demands and facilities, among others. The board meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the municipal building.

Cheer on the teachers at the 10th annual dodgeball tournament at 6 p.m. Jan. 16 in the Peters Township High School gymnasium. Cost is $5. Food and beverages will be available. All proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Scholarship Fund.
Advanced tickets are available during school hours in the high school athletic office and in some of the other district schools. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Checks are to be payable to the Peters Township National Honor Society.
• The PTHS Student Council is sponsoring a jeans drive to provide jeans for homeless teens in the area. New or gently used jeans may be dropped off at the Peters Township High School, middle school, McMurray Elementary or the library until Jan. 24.
• Peters Township Middle School, in celebration of its recent achievement as a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School, will host a Dance-A-Thon fundraiser from 5-11 p.m. Jan. 31. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh. The South Fayette Foundation for Excellence will hold its annual “Evening of Music” with the Mansfield 5 and the Four Townsmen bands March 8 at the SNPJ Club, 540 Third Ave., Bridgeville. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the first band will take the stage at 7. There will be an auction basket and raffle. Food and adult beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are $20.
All proceeds benefit the foundation, which provides student scholarships and teacher grants.

WorkAble, a partnership of South Hills Interfaith Ministries, North Hills Community Outreach and Jewish Family and Children’s Services, funded by United Way of Allegheny County, is recruiting volunteers to mentor job seekers during the stressful job search process. Volunteer career mentors provide emotional support as well as practical guidance on resume and cover letter writing, job search skills and interview skills. Training is provided.
South Hills residents interested in serving as mentors are encouraged to attend a session at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at SHIM, 5301 Park Ave., Bethel Park.

The Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair will hold its third annual Celebrate Our Schools Gala Feb. 22 at Valley Brook Country Club. There will be hot and cold food stations, and a dessert and coffee bar. Live music will be provided by the Scott Argiro Band.
The gala is in partnership with the Upper St. Clair School District, which has selected student technologies as the beneficiary of the gala. Tickets are $100 per person. Register at www.cfusc.org.
