Ian Happ of Mt. Lebanon earned pre-season all-America honors from Perfect Game for the upcoming college baseball season. The University of Cincinnati sophomore garnered second-team status.

Happ is one of only two players from the American Athletic Conference to earn the honor. He also is one of only eight sophomores chosen.

As a freshman, Happ started all 56 games for the Bearcats and gained all-America acclaim. He led the team with 41 runs scored, 13 doubles, six homeruns and 47 walks. The 5-11, 192-pound outfielder recorded a team-high .322 batting average, a .483 slugging percentage and a .451 on-base percentage.

During the summer, Happ ripped up the Cape Cod Baseball League and secured all-star honors.

In high school, Happ went from Almanac Rookie of the year his freshman year to MVP his senior season. The four-year letterwinner helped Mt. Lebanon to a Top 8 finish in the PIAA in 2012. He accumulated a .449 career average with 33 doubles, five triples, 12 homers and 65 RBIs.

The 19-year-old son of Keith and Mary Beth Happ is majoring in finance. He had an older brother, Chris, who played baseball at Duquesne.

The Bearcats open the 2014 campaign Feb. 14 in North Carolina, battling Elon College before traveling to Winston-Salem to compete in the Wake Forest Tournament and to Blacksburg to play in the Virginia Tech Tournament.
