With five games remaining in the regular season, Bethel Park solidified its slim hold on first place in Section 1-AAA when the Hawks topped North Allegheny, 4-2, in Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League action.

With the win, the Hawks edged ahead of Peters Township in the standings. BP is 12-2 overall and the Indians are 11-2 overall. The two teams square off at 9 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Southpointe Iceoplex. In addition to the Indians, the Hawks host State College at 7 p.m. Jan. 31 and Mt. Lebanon at 8:20 p.m. Feb. 20 on their home ice at Bladerunners. They conclude the regular season at Ice Castle in Castle Shannon against Upper St. Clair. The puck drops at 8:40 p.m. Feb. 27.

While the top 12 teams in Class AAA qualify for post-season play, the top four clubs receive a first-round bye in the playoffs. Eight teams qualify for the playoffs in Class AA and A.

Against the Tigers, Jake Worcester, Tyler Kruszewski, Derek Lesnak and Jacob Salak scored goals.

Christian Siak and Kruszewski each collected two assists. Lesnak, Salak and Nicholas Konyk also had assists.

William Lowe faced 29 shots, making 27 saves.

Siak is the No. 2 scorer in Class AAA of the PIHL with 22 goals and 12 assists. Lesnak ranks in the top 12 with six goals and 19 assists. Zachary Davis ranks fifth among goals with a 10-1 record, a 1.86 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage.

The Hawks were not the only club to beat NA. Canon-McMillan blanked the Tigers, 6-0.

James Oddi spearheaded the Big Macs’ attack. In addition to a hat trick, he dished up two assists.

Oddi leads the Big Macs in all offensive categories with 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 total points. He ranks No. 5 in the league.

Colman Slain supplied two goals while Austin Tonkovich completed the scoring against NA. Tonkovich has 12 goals and 12 assists on the season.

Zachary Mansmann recorded three assists while Kevin Lovargna, Shane Morgan and Slain each had one.

C Harthett earned the shutout. He turned away 18 shots on goal. The Big Macs reeled off 38 shots against the Tigers.

The Big Macs follow BP and PT in the team standings with a 6-7-1 overall record. USC is fourth with a 6-8 slate.

Four other local players rank among the top 20 in total points in the Class AAA division. They are: Mt. Lebanon’s Stephen Sramac (10 goals, 16 assists) and Reed Farber (12 goals, 12 assists), USC’s Austin Cassidy (17 goals, 8 assists) and Adam Alavi from Peters Township (13 goals, 9 assists).

Bishop Canevin and Chartiers Valley continue to dominate Class AA. The Crusaders are 14-2 overall while the Colts follow in second place with a 9-6 slate.

CV’s Anthony Franks leads all scorers with 21 goals and 30 assists while Canevin’s Randy Unger follows with 19 tallies and 31 assists.

Cullen McMahon from CV ranks No. 5 with 25 goals and 21 assists.

The Crusaders have four other players in the top 15 including: Alec Bosnic (16 goals, 16 assists), Garrett Godlewski (16 goals, 13 assists), Liam Walsh (16 goals, 12 assists) and Blaine Adams (14 goals, 14 assists).

Canevin’s Nikita Meskin is the top goalie. At 14-2 overall, he maintains a 1.86 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. CV’s Alexander Chabala follows in sixth position with a 9-5 record and .864 save percentage.
