UPDATE – Bethel bank robbery gets away with $3,000
The lone gunman who robbed a Bethel Park bank Thursday afternoon got away with $3,000, according to Bethel Park police Detective Joelle Dixon.
The man entered the Northwest Savings Bank, 6284 Library Road near Clifton Road, before 3:30 p.m. Jan. 30, showed a teller a handgun and demanded money. He fled north on Library Road, also known as Route 88.
He was wearing a black coat, gray hooded sweat shirt, blue jeans and a black ski mask. The robber was a thin, tall man, Dixon said.
There was one customer in the bank, along with bank employees, at the time of the robbery, said Bethel Park police Chief John Mackey. No one was injured.
Dixon said police are investigating to see if the Bethel robbery was related to the robbery of a bank in West Mifflin earlier in the day. The detective also said the FBI responded, but will not conduct the investigation.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Bethel Park police dispatch at 412-833-2000, or 911 and ask for Bethel Park police.
