Oldaker named Youth Olympic Games coach
Dori Oldaker has been selected head coach of the U.S. 3×3 women’s basketball team that will compete at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
“I am extremely honored to be named head coach of the U.S. Youth Olympic Women’s Basketball Team,” Oldaker said. “This is an exciting opportunity that I take very seriously, but I also look forward to enjoying the journey as well. I hope that I am able to help these athletes grow as players and as leaders on and off the court. Our goal will to be improve each day and win the gold.”
The basketball competition at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games is a 3×3 format organized by the International Olympic Committee and FIBA. The basketball competition is expected to include 20 men’s teams and 20 women’s teams, as well as a dunk contest for men and a shootout for women. Each team will be comprised of four players, and athletes eligible for this competition must have been born between Jan. 1, 1996 and Dec. 31, 1997.
As the U.S. basketball coach for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, Oldaker will guide the USA’s Aug. 11-13 training camp prior to the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. While she will travel to Nanjing, China, for the Aug. 16-28 event, 3×3 rules do not allow coaches to be on the sidelines during games.
Also tabbed as a court coach for the recent 2014 USA Basketball Women’s U17 World Championship Team Trials, Oldaker has two additional experiences as a USA Basketball court coach, including the 2012 USA Women’s U17 and U18 National Team trials and at the 2011 USA Women’s U16 National Team Trials.
In 15 seasons (1998-present) as a high school head coach, she owns a 360-75 career record (.828 winning percentage). She has collected four Pennsylvania Quad-A state titles (2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011) and two AAA state titles (1999, 2000).
As the girls basketball head coach at Mt. Lebanon for the past 11 seasons (2003-04 to present), Oldaker has compiled a 255-57 overall record (.817 winning percentage) at the school.
Oldaker, a second-grade teacher at Washington Elementary School, resides in South Fayette with her husband, Mark, and their two children, Taylor and Ryan.
