‘Sr. Gertrude’s Guide to Heaven’

Producers Jude and Shirley Pohl announce the opening of their world premiere production, “Sr. Gertrude’s Guide to Heaven … Avoiding Excommunication at All Costs,” written and directed by Jude Pohl. The show, their 150th production in the Pittsburgh area, opens July 19 at the Crowne Plaza Cabaret Dinner Theatre, Bethel Park. Performances take place at 8 p.m. July 19, 25, 26 and Aug. 8, 9, 15, 16.

The one-woman show stars Nancy Shawgo as Sr. Gertrude. John and Carol Ann Schussler make several guest appearances as members of the congregation. While the Vatican has not granted authority to grant indulgences for attendance, Sr. Gertrude will give some very helpful hints as to how to obtain them on your own. She will cover topics such as mortal and venial sin (including sins against the sixth and ninth commandments), purgatory, limbo, and, of course, pagan babies.

All performances include a buffet “church dinner” served at 6:30 consisting of stuffed cabbage, pierogies, rigatoni, baked beans and fire and ice salad, as well as dessert. Price of the dinner theatre package is $40 (includes tax &tip).
