‘Hairspray’

Community College of Allegheny County South Campus Theatre, West Mifflin, will present the multiple Tony-award winning musical comedy “Hairspray” at 8 p.m. July 25, 26 and 31 and Aug. 1 and 2 in the campus theater. A matinee show will be offered at 2 p.m. July 27. Featuring a cast of more than 50 performers, the production is being directed by JR Hall with choreography by Mindy Rossi-Stabler.

“Hairspray” follows the story of overweight teenager Tracy Turnblad in her quest to dance on a popular local TV dance show. From her initial audition to landing a role on the show and becoming an overnight sensation to using her celebrity to champion a cause to diversify the show’s talent, “Hairspray” expertly blends the sweet, joyful spirit of youthful ambition with a powerful social commentary on segregation and other injustices of 1960s America.

Admission is $10. For more information, call 412-469-6219.
