Bethel Park Council discusses parking, fire pits
Bethel Park municipal officials are considering revisions to ordinances regarding parking and the use of fire pits.Councilman James McLean said there have been complaints about residents parking vehicles on their front lawns.
Because the situation is not covered under any current ordinances, municipal planner Jerry Duke surveyed the ordinances of several other municipalities.
Council members agreed they do not want an ordinance that has residents parking on the streets. In addition, they do not want to force residences to construct elaborate driveways and other off street parking spaces.
“The idea is not to incur expense,” McLean said.
It was agreed to refer the problem to the planning commission to have it clarify designated parking areas.
Another resident complaint, this one about fire pits, prompted discussion about an ordinance regarding the popular outdoor feature.
According to council president Tim Moury, the county has an ordinance regulating outdoor fires. Moury researched neighboring municipalities, and it was agreed that the administrative staff will review the municipality’s current ordinances regarding fire pits.
